I would like you to meet Clair Ashley and her Etsy shop:  ClairAshley.

Let’s get to know ClairAshley and Clair:

il_570xN.491023800_oruxWhat would you like us to know about you?
I have an obsession with anchors and nautical themes.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?

It started out with me making matryoshka doll necklaces (because at the time I couldn’t find any to purchase) and I enjoyed making them so much, it made me want to pursue this further.

How did you come up with your shop name?il_570xN.500034932_44y2
I just wanted something simple and timeless, so I chose my name. I was tempted to pick something not so traditional, but because I’m fickle, I knew I would get sick of anything non traditional. I chuckle as I look through my old name list: Moon Splashed? Whimsy (glad I didn’t pick that one, because my husband pointed out, it rhymes with flimsy). And Ashie Accessories sounded really 90’s.

How would you describe your shop?
I make: Anchor Jewelry, Nautical Jewelry, Hand Stamped Personalized Jewelry

What inspires you?
I look around and I’m in awe of what God has made. Infinite stars, ocean deeps and vast skies. I dream a lot about the ocean and sand. My Mom grew up by the sea and passed on her ocean love to me.

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find? il_570xN.494180082_st86
really enjoy making hand stamped bracelet cuffs and ring cuffs.

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
A notebook for jotting ideas, my laptop and my tools.

Talented Tuesday – Muffy and Trudy

I would like you to meet LeAnne Steiner and her Etsy shop:  MuffyandTrudy.

bannerIf you love Modern handmade jewelry with vintage components, gemstones, pressed flowers, found objects, resin, antiqued brass, glitter, and more, then you will love the items at MuffyandTrudy .

il_570xN.417134864_8b7oLet’s get to know MuffyandTrudy and LeAnne:

What would you like us to know about you?

I’m a stay at home mom of two awesome little boys. Currently, my jewelry sales fund my supplies, but I definitely plan on growing. I’m a big believer in the quote, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” That was one that my mom used way too often. And, “Whether you think you can or you can’t-you’re right.” I rolled my eyes at that one, too. But now I see that she was right.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?

My friends nudged me to open up an Etsy shop, and I’m so glad I did. There are so many generous fellow Etsians who love to give advice and have helped make it easy to learn and improve.

How did you come up with your shop name?il_570xN.445721224_h8aj
All the other names were taken! Every time I thought I came up with a clever, original name for my shop, it was already being used by someone else. I obsessed over shop names for five days, before deciding to name it after my first two Boston Terriers. I know. Totally unrelated to jewelry.

How would you describe your shop?
I sell modern handmade jewelry and I also have a selection of vintage brooches. I love working with stones, shells, plants, other found items, vintage components, and resin.

What inspires you?
I’m inspired by nature. Especially the ocean and the woods. Art, music, and time periods also light my fire.

il_570xN.489444410_pp0eWhich item in your shop is your favorite to make/find? I love re-purposing broken vintage pieces into modern jewelry. I also love making arrowhead necklaces. Wrapping a rough arrowhead with shiny wire brings me peace. I could do it for hours. But my little boys won’t let me!

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
Antiqued brass chain, wire, and tools. I’d find shells on the island for jewelry making, and I’d be as happy as a clam.

I’d also like for readers to know that I will be donating one dollar from each sale to a cancer research program. I’m just waiting on the organization’s approval before I disclose their name and update my shop with the information. Too many people I love are affected by cancer. If everyone would give a little, to support anyone in need, it would make huge difference in the world!

Thanks so much LeAnne.  It has been great getting to know you and discovering your shop and your lovely items.

Now please show LeAnne some support and let us know which of her pieces are your favorite from her shop! Oh…and go ahead and heart a few of her items along with her shop :)

Weekly Wrap-Up – For Last Week

My weekend got away from me and I forgot to wrap it up!  So here goes.

Snow is coming, so we jazzed up the chicken coop so the chickies have some place to be outside, out of the snow…  It’s a work in progress.  I still need to paint and we need to cut more ventilation in the coop, but it is coming along

If you love a mixture of handmade items and vintage finds, then you will love the items at ScarlettsCozyCottage.

il_570xN.492978687_ci6jLet’s get to know ScarlettsCozyCottage and Eileen:

What would you like us to know about you?
I have a passion for art and creating. I love a challenge. I love being around pretty things. Constantly, I am on the hunt for just right fabrics, many are designer some are vintage or vintage sheeting. I love an eclectic mix; it makes for such lovely and cozy products. I am college educated and am home with my youngest daughter, Scarlett. I am the mother of three beautiful children and wife to an amazing husband.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?il_570xN.474894981_g2j4

I have opened my shop to suit 2 needs; to allow me to have an outlet for my creativity and also to be working “part time”.

How did you come up with your shop name?
My shop is named after my 2 year old daughter, Scarlett and my fond memories of living in England (cottage).

How would you describe your shop?
Scarlett’s Cozy Cottage’s motto is Cottage-Inspired Quirky Creations and Finds. Basically, I feel like my shop is quirky, unique, shabby, eclectic and colorful! I try to create a cozy feeling of being in an English cottage while browsing in my shop. As I have a little one in the house, I do have a lot of kid items, bunnies, owls, cats, mobiles, and quilts, but I also have a variety of vintage, lots of lovely homey pillows, holiday items, fabrics, pincushions, watercolor prints and more! I love everything being one of a kind.

il_570xN.483630743_b1onWhat inspires you?
I love most things vintage, French and English country, shabby chic, both romantic and quirky fabrics, roses and mismatched colors. I love old vintage lace, ribbons, and chenille. I am thrilled when I find and rescue beautiful and old linens and embroidery! We were a military family and were fortunate enough to live in England for our last assignment (my first assignment was also in England) and I always felt like it was home. I am inspired by the beautiful arts and crafts of my time abroad. I love the use of color used in the French countryside; it was all so vibrant and fresh!

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
I love a challenge and I love coming up with new items. Once I feel like I have mastered one, I get the urge to move on to another project and switch things up a bit. Right now, I am loving making my new line of mobiles. I have created my very own design of fabric bird, flower and vintage baby mobiles. I also love creating new pillows using vintage embroidery. Pillows are my favorite!

Fall in Baker City Oregon and Good News for Me!

I had to go to the Doctors last Friday and got some good news!  I am off my blood pressure medicine!  My BP was 128/80.  So a year on my CPAP machine has lowered my blood pressure!  I am so happy!  and that also allowed me to be off the blood thinners!  So it was a pretty great day!

Anyway, the colors were so spectacular that I took some photos to share with you!

Talented Tuesday – YayBeads

I would like you to meet Judy and her Etsy shop:  YayBeads .

bannerIf you love finding great finds for your unique jewelry creations, then you will love the items at YayBeads .

il_570xN.366154052_86y7Let’s get to know YayBeads and Judy:

What would you like us to know about you?

I got in to stones by accident, but now I’m hooked. Two years ago, I went to Tucson and it was my idea of Heaven. Picking through hundreds of boxes of stones, and being able to buy the best, finding new and interesting material, walking down an aisle (determined to leave without buying ONE MORE THING) and doing a double-take on a strand of focal beads. I can buy what strikes my eye and know that it will go to a good home. Sometimes I really feel that a particular stone is destined for ONE person. By having an internet shop, the odds increase that the stone will find that particular someone.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?il_570xN.483609427_t9lk

I’d had an online shop for a few years, but was researching on the Internet how to improve my photographs when I stumbled upon Etsy. I was so impressed with the amount of good information and the camaraderie on the forums that I decided to open a shop.

How did you come up with your shop name?
The hard part was coming up with something not already taken! The family had a brainstorming session and I especially liked YayBeads, because it reflected my personal feelings about my inventory. I had no glimmer of hope it wasn’t already taken. After an Internet search, I checked Etsy, facebook, twitter, etc. and was delighted to find it was!

il_570xN.303548255How would you describe your shop?
I love stones. Several years ago, during a family illness, I did some “eBay therapy” and ended up with quite a cache of lovely stones I had no idea what to do with. Years later, I now only hand select my stones. I just know that I always really like what I select. Since I am very particular about what I buy and only choose the best, I decided to make it a specialty shop. Excellent quality, small quantities. That way, you get what you need and don’t have a lot of unneeded leftovers. I cater to those who makes OOAK or limited edition handcrafted jewelry.

What inspires you?il_570xN.473769090_tkq8
I have been told I have a psychic gift that points me to select particular stones. All I know is that if there were a mountain of stones, if I buried my hand and pulled out only one, it would be lovely…and probably rare. Especially in the beginning, I would buy a lovely strand and not even know what it was.

Years later I would research its origin and discover it was some rare stone found in only one place in the world. The lapidary teams on Etsy have been extremely helpful in identifying stones for me and I have learned a huge amount over the years.

One of this things that most surprised me in my education, was that there are many semi-precious stones that are much more rare than diamonds. Mother Nature is an amazing artist and the myriad of colors, textures, and shapes never cease to amaze me.

il_570xN.393281674_e7lmWhich item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
That is a hard question because I love them all (that’s why I chose them!), but I have to admit a special fondness for the Royal Imperial Jasper. (see photo to the left)

The natural colors are so perfectly complimentary and seem hand-painted by Mother Nature!

If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
Since I wouldn’t be able to shop for stones, I would love to have the time and equipment to polish my own. For starters, I guess I’d need a computer to converse with the Etsy lapidary teams find out what equipment I would need! Like any pirate, I wouldn’t mind just sifting my jewels through my hands.

Featured Friday – Daly Studios

I would like you to meet Christine Daly and her Etsy shop:  dalystudios .

Banner

If you love affordable handmade jewelry inspired by the shapes, colors & textures of the natural world, then you will love the items at dalystudios.

il_570xN.460355230_qab0Let’s get to know dalystudios and Christine:

What would you like us to know about you?

I’ve spent a lifetime engaged in the arts. My husband and I have made our living as painters, somehow managing to feed and educate 6 kids along the way. The nest is empty now, so we can digress.

What prompted you to open an Etsy Shop?

My husband gave me a little pair of jewelry pliers to repair some broken pieces that were languishing in my drawer for years. I started fiddling with jewelry and never stopped. I made so much, I decided to try selling some of it to support my bead addiction.

How did you come up with your shop name?il_570xN.499833025_iens
Our painting/book business has always been Daly Studios. I just used the name when I initially signed up for Etsy as a buyer. *Yawn*

How would you describe your shop?
I make affordable, wearable pieces of jewelry that are well suited to casual, everyday use. I use a lot of natural gemstones, aged glass beads and metal wire that I oxidize to develop an interesting patina. I really like the idea of adding a touch of something unique and beautiful to someone’s daily routine…giving them something pretty to look at and touch when they need to exhale.

il_570xN.387868399_2au7

What inspires you?
Nature. I live on a farm and I am surrounded by so much natural beauty. I take those shapes, colors and textures and interpret them into little adornments.

Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
It changes every day…sometimes several times in one day, actually.
