I would like you to meet Julie Rawding and her Etsy shop: CanOrCanNot
If you love recycled, creative, fun items, then you will love the items at CanOrCanNot.
Let’s get to know Julie:
What would you like us to know about you?
Hello, I am Julie and I am an architect, originally from the Czech Republic. Five years ago I came on vacation to Malta, Europe, and fell in love with this Mediterranean island… Later on I also fell in love with my future husband and we’re still here.
I had been on maternity leave for a few months when I thought it would be nice if my hobby could bring in some cash. In a romantic way I should say I wanted to share my love around.
How did you come up with your shop name?
Originally I planned to decorate cans using different materials, so I needed a name which would include the noun ‘can’, I also wanted it to be something motivational – because it is my daily question ‘Can I do this?’ And then I came up with this wordplay: Can or Can Not? Now I stick to felt, but the name stuck.
How would you describe your shop?
Colourful and positive!
What inspires you?
My biggest inspiration is our daughter – she is interested in everything! I love how she is discovering the world and how everything is exciting and new for her. We should all learn this attitude from our children!
Also because of my daughter, I am even more careful about our planet. We don’t need to make big steps – every little one is important. If we remember to recycle, reuse and try to limit our own waste, our planet will be here for a bit longer. Otherwise, we will all die under a pile of our own rubbish.
Which item in your shop is your favorite to make/find?
I like my “psycho” cans – they are just made with materials and pure imagination – basically without any limit. No pattern, no thinking ahead – just cutting and gluing. The end result is often even surprising to me!
If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, what are the 3 crafty must haves?
Malta is so small (and beautiful) that sometimes I think I live on a desert island (with lots of other castaways)
I would like to have:
Knitting needles – good as a weapon and great for spit roasting
Classic needle – and an important craft tool since prehistory
And I know this may seem boring but a knife is always good to have
Where else can we find you?
I have my facebook page:
And I’m currently setting up my ‘Can or Can Not’ webpage:
